Report about a titanic-model in 1:100, built by Jürgen Kliewe

   Introduction

If you have worked on a titanic model for more than 2500 hours, then of course you feel connected with that piece. Because everything is manual work, you put little bit of your soul in every piece. Since I know, that there are some reproductions of that ship in the same yardstick right now, I'd like to pass on some tips, that may help to form, shape and arrange the one or the other detail. First of all, the model builder does not have to question himself what it is that he has to build, but how he changes every single piece into reality. So, sometimes it seems to be totally desperate with the search for a solution. But it can be so easy, once you have found the solution. Perhaps, however, I should introduce myself first. I was born in 1962 and live in Ueckermuende (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Germany).
In the time-span between 1992 and 1995, I was rebuilding the titanic in the yard measure of 1:100 and finished the work after over 2500 hours. The model was seen on television, besides as well as other smaller exhibitions also in the Hamburger TITANIC exhibition, in Munich, Zurich and in other exhibition places in the USA.
That makes me happy, of course, because I really think, that they would not have taken every model. I`m obliged to stand by my own opinion concerning thing which arent`t the 100% the same as the original. The building condition corresponds to my knowledge of that from the beginning of the 90s. You always become smarter, especially through movies and exhibitions, documents, maps and published pictures. That way you can see details more closely. Nevertheless, I'm satisfied with my model and have even experienced model builders coming up to me to praise me for the endurance and the good presentation of the details. I know the ship is being rebuilt by a couple of people in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, right now. Perhaps I can exchange my experiences with these people. ).
